SocialSafe v2 approaches backups in a slightly different way to v1. We wanted to make SocialSafe easier to use and develop. It’s a complete re-write to enable us to quickly add many more social networks without lots of redesigning.
The biggest change is the diary view.
Quickly Diary View will become the easiest way to see everything you did online on any given day. Search is but a click away – it will look through everything you’ve downloaded and find that elusive status update. Clicking on the date brings up a calendar to quickly jump to another day or even show several days at the same time!
v2 is the transition to this way of presenting your online activities, starting with Facebook and Twitter. We’re already hard at work adding more networks and improving what gets added to your diary back ups.
Facebook doesn’t generally lose its users’ accounts, however it can happen. When it does it can really cause havoc. Do you remember everyone you’re connected to through Facebook? Do you have all the photos you’ve uploaded to your profile stored elsewhere? It pays to have at least one copy of anything you produce. If your content is stored on your computer you should have it copied to a standalone hard drive or uploaded to an internet back up service. This is also the case where you solely store your content on an internet site – get a copy on your computer too.
Twitter only stores your last 3000 tweets so to be sure to have everything you ever tweeted you need to start backing up now.
